RCMP in British Columbia say two children have passed away after an off-road vehicle rollover that involved five kids.

The incident happened on a rural road in the northeastern B.C. village of Pouce Coupe, southeast of Dawson Creek, on Thursday, June 4.

The ATV was said to have lost control and rolled several times over a considerable distance, ejecting some of the children from the vehicle in the process.

An eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a seven-year-old girl, was airlifted by Grande Prairie’s STARS Air Ambulance, but passed away due to her injuries in a hospital despite the efforts of medical personnel.

The three other children involved in the ATV rollover sustained minor, but non-life-threatening injuries.
