Rare tornado touches down near Girouxville

An unknown strength tornado ripped through the Peace Country town of Girouxville on Monday (June 15) night.
The tornado touched down just after 8 p.m. according to Alberta Storm Watch and area resident reports.
The rare-weather event caused extensive damages to properties in the area including granaries, roofs, and smaller outbuildings. No injuries have been reported by authorities.
ATCO Electric also reported that power had been knocked out due to the storm in Girouxville and surrounding communities. The electricity provider says a timeline of getting power fully restored is unknown and to keep at least 10 metres away from downed power lines.
