County firefighters ratify new agreement with IAFF

The County of Grande Prairie has ratified a new agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 5108.

Under this new agreement, firefighters will receive a retroactive wage increase of 3.85 per cent for 2024 and 3.5 per cent for 2025.

In addition, a PPE and uniform committee will be formed, and the fire service will add the rank of lieutenant, utilizing existing personnel to step in when captains are unavailable.

“These agreements reflect council’s commitment to staying fiscally responsible while remaining a competitive employer,” says Reeve Amanda McDonald. “They support both our workforce and the residents we serve. Over the last several years, wildfire risk has been top of mind for the county. We are dedicated to reducing this risk, while recruiting and retaining skilled firefighters to help keep our communities safe.”

County Council voted to approve the agreement at their meeting on Monday, June 22.
