Blue Building arts hub holding soft opening July 17 & 18

After over a year of development, the Blue Building project on 102 Street is ready to welcome visitors and showcase local businesses and artists to the community.

Blue Building spokesperson Dalen Landis says the project was developed to resolve three problems: to help local entrepreneurs, to bridge Muskoseepi Park and the downtown area, and to promote Grande Prairie’s arts and culture scene.

“Whether they are a maker and they produce things or they are a performance artist or visual artist,” Landis says. “We wanted to have a facility where everybody could operate under one roof. People could come into the space and hopefully get introduced to a bunch of new talent that they may not have been able to find otherwise.”

The soft opening events at the Blue Building are taking place today, July 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Landis is inviting the public to stop by and enjoy the property’s collection of vendors and attached businesses.

“We have Serena Love, who is a local artist creating art and then also displaying it in the space,” he says. “We’ve also got Harmony’s Way, which is a multi-generational farm and butcher’s shop. We’ve got Comfort and Chaos, which is a full-service restaurant, and we’ve got Grain Bin Brewing Company, too.

The space is located at the old Northern Bottling plant. It was purchased by the project developers in January 2025 and has been renovated to include a performance space and rotating market venue.

“We’ve put tons of time and effort into producing something that has adequate retail space but also venue space too,” he says. “So, if there are any performances that are looking for a venue to showcase their work, we have a venue that can be used for anything from a wedding to an onstage performance to an all-ages concert.”

The Blue Building is set to officially open sometime in August.
