Severe thunderstorm and air quality warnings for Grande Prairie

Aug 1, 2026 | 11:46 AM

Environment Canada has issued two separate weather alerts for the Grande Prairie area on Saturday, August 1.

Conditions today are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

The national weather office says these conditions will develop this afternoon and into the evening. Driving is expected to be difficult in the storms.

There is also a air quality warning that has been due for wildfire smoke coming in from British Columbia.

Conditions are expected to improve early next week. Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour.
