Jail sentence in child exploitation case

Alberta Justice says a 34-month jail sentence has been handed down in Grande Prairie court in a child exploitation case.

Brooke Richer was given the sentence on July 31 in Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench for charges of possession of child pornography, luring a child and sexual exploitation.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time that on September 28, 2023, they got a report of what they called “a potential inappropriate relationship between an educational assistant and a youth.”

RCMP arrested Richer on charges of sexual assault, sexual exploitation and luring a child.

Trial in High Prairie murder to continue in November

Alberta Justice says the trial in a High Prairie murder case will resume in November.

The trial for Kyra Renee Backs will continue from November 12 to 20 in Peace River Court of King’s Bench after it started in late July.

Backs was charged with murder after the October 6, 2022, death of a seven-month-old baby.

Backs had been running a day home in High Prairie at the time.
