Special weather statement in effect for south-east Peace

Residents travelling south today should remain on alert for funnel clouds.

A special weather statement is in effect for most of central Alberta and includes Valleyview, Fox Creek and High Prairie.

Environment Canada warns residents that when funnel clouds develop, there is a greater chance of a landspout tornado forming.

They add that residents should take all sightings seriously, as funnel clouds usually develop with little to no warning; if one does form, prepare to find shelter.
