Blackfalds RCMP officer arrested for intimate partner violence
A Blackfalds RCMP officer is facing multiple charges following an investigation into intimate partner violence.
According to a media release from the Government of Alberta, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed on July 9 to investigate allegations of intimate partner violence involving an off-duty RCMP officer in Blackfalds.
ASIRT reports that because the case involves allegations of intimate partner violence, they’re not naming the charged officer to protect the victim.
“This is a rare exception to ASIRT’s practice of publicly identifying officers charged with criminal offences. This decision was made to prioritize a trauma-informed approach and the privacy of the victim, while also ensuring public transparency that a police officer has been criminally charged,” said Katherine Murphy, CEO of the Police Review Commission.
