ASIRT investigating officer involved shooting in Fox Creek

Aug 21, 2026 | 12:36 PM

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is sharing an update on its investigation into a non-fatal shooting by an RCMP officer that occurred in Fox Creek earlier this month.

At about 10 p.m. on Aug. 4, the RCMP responded to a report of an alleged domestic disturbance at a Fox Creek residence. The caller reported that a man had assaulted a woman and fired a gun within the home, and that a 12-year-old boy was also inside the building.

ASIRT reports that officers arrived and attempted to contact the man, who refused to leave, requiring the police to obtain a warrant to enter the house.

Around midnight, the RCMP deployed its Emergency Response Team (ERT) to the scene, at which point crisis negotiators used a megaphone to direct the suspect to surrender.

According to ASIRT’s ongoing investigation, around 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 5, the ERT surrounded the residence while communication efforts continued. At around 5 a.m., officers reportedly attempted to use less-lethal options to get the man to surrender.

Officers say the man then appeared with a gun, and shortly after, an officer shot him.

ASIRT reports that medical treatment was provided, and the individual was taken to hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

“The information in this update reflects what investigators know at this early stage, and what can be shared while maintaining the integrity of the investigations,” ASIRT officials say.

The investigation is ongoing.
