New fire in GPFA

Alberta Wildfire is responding to an out of control wildfire detected Saturday evening (August 22) near the Alberta-B.C. border in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Fire watchers say the blaze (GWF058) is 30 hectares in size and located south of Township Road 700 at the end of Range Road 133. The cause of the fire in under investigation.

Firefighters are responding with helicopters, airtankers, and heavy equipment; with operations focused on slowing the spread of the flames.

As of Saturday night, the blaze was showing active fire behavior. Sunday (August 23) is forecast to have higher winds, which may increase fire activity. Wildland firefighters will closely monitor conditions and respond accordingly.
