Manning youth arrested after school shooting threats

A 16-year-old suspect is in custody after Manning RCMP were made aware of a student threatening to shoot other students on the first day of school.

With help from the Peace River School District, Mounties began investigating and taking statements, which led them to identify the suspect.

A search warrant was then executed at a Manning residence earlier today (Monday, Aug.25), which led to RCMP seizing seven firearms; the 16-year-old was then arrested on one count of uttering threats, pending Crown approval.

Manning Detachment Commander Sergeant Gavin Ool says they take “threats to children very seriously,” and they worked with the Peace River School District to assist in the investigation and review safety measures.

“We encourage members of the public to always report any threats to our children and allow us to fully investigate and prevent these disasters from happening.”

PRSD superintendent Dr. Jeff Thompson added that the “safety and well-being of students and staff remains an unwavering priority” for their school division, and they are grateful for a swift response from local RCMP.
