$24.8 million in funding

Fibre Optics coming to Grande Cache & Swan Hills

The provincial and federal governments are spending a combined $24.8 million on two Alberta projects to bring high-speed internet to some communities.

The federal government calls this a step forward in connecting all Canadians by 2030, with 97% already having internet access.

The funding will be split between two projects and will deliver high-speed internet to a combined 1,833 households.

One of the planned projects will bring fibre optics infrastructure to 734 households in five communities, including Grande Cache and Swan Hills. The total cost is $2,991,400.

Landry Heights, Silver Valley, and St. Isidore are also included in this announcement.

Secretary of State for Rural Development Buckley Belanger called high-speed internet “essential infrastructure in today’s world; it helps level the playing field—connecting people to health care, education and business.”

The project should be finished by March, 2028.

The other one is being done in northeastern Alberta.
