City nearing completion of Bear Creek hydrocarbon cleanup
Sep 16, 2026 | 11:37 AM
The City of Grande Prairie is nearing completion of its response to the hydrocarbon release in Bear River [Bear Creek] reported Sept. 6.
Testing indicates diesel and weathered oil entered the stormwater system, and temporary sorbent booms are currently set up at several locations to help contain the product.
The City is reminding everyone to properly dispose of fuels, oils, chemicals, and other harmful materials, as stormwater can flow untreated into local waterways.
The booms are expected to be removed Friday, pending satisfactory laboratory results, and residents are asked to not interfere with them for the time being.
