Sep 17, 2026 | 3:38 PM

A well-known figure around curling rinks in the Peace Country has passed away.

An obituary posted to the Oilver’s Funeral Home website says Marcy Balderston died at the family home near Sexsmith on Sept. 14. She was 61.

The obituary says Balderston was part of five provincial curling championships, plus one national championship.

Balderston won those titles in both women’s and mixed curling, two of those mixed titles while playing on the same team as her husband Kurt.

The obituary says Marcy also competed in equestrian events, including in show jumping at Spruce Meadows and in gymkhana, a sport in which she also won an Alberta championship.

The funeral will be held on  Sept. 25 at the Christian Fellowship Assembly in Grande Prairie.
