NWP, Northern Gateway schools team up on new way to train teachers

Northwestern Polytechnic and Northern Gateway Public Schools say they have come up with a way to train more teachers locally. 

NWP says in a release posted on its website that starting in the 2026-27 academic year, students will be able to take classes for their Bachelor of Education – Elementary degree through facilities at Northern Gateway schools.  

Those would be both remote and in-person classes. 

Aspiring educators could also do their practicums at Northern Gateway elementary schools. 

The release says that “rural school communities continue to face challenges recruiting and retaining local teachers,” making this kind of instruction “particularly important.”
