Rising Above to host Share-A-Thon, new facility opening, on Saturday

Saturday, Sept. 26 will be a big day for Grande Prairie’s Rising Above. 

It will host a grand opening of its new facility as part of its 16th Share-A-Thon. 

The new building has been built behind the current addictions treatment facility, formerly the Young Offenders Centre, across from Centre 2000. 

Plans for the new building first came out in 2023. The three-story building would have 28 living units, along with a kitchen and programming space. 

“This new building will allow us to almost double the number of beds available for both men and women and is a significant increase in our capacity to help people break cycles of defeat in their lives,” says a release from Rising Above. 

Previously, women were housed in four different places around Grande Prairie. 

Share-A-Thon will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday. The day will include a ceremony to open the new building at 11 a.m., tours of the new space, stories from people who have been helped by Rising Above, along with music, kids’ activities and food trucks.
