More CCMA awards for Tenille Townes

Grande Prairie’s Tenille Townes added to her collection of Canadian Country Music Awards at the most recent edition held last weekend in Saskatoon.

She shared the Songwriters of the Year award with Michael August, Nate Hall, James Adam Shelley, and Stuart Walker for the song Backfire, a duet with Nate Holler.  

The two also won for Musical Collaboration of the Year for the same song. 

Townes has been going to the CCMAs since she was 14. 

“It’s so surreal to (see) the music that I’m making celebrated by these people that I love and look up to, and I get to call friends.” 

“I love this event because we all high-five in the hallway and cheer each other on and get to be all together under one roof.” 

She was also thinking of her hometown. 

“Sending so much love to everybody up in Grande Prairie. I miss everybody from home. I can’t wait to get back there.” 

“We are coming back for Big Hearts for Big Kids next year, so I can’t wait for more about that soon.” 

Townes was also asked about having Kenny Chesney record a song she co-wrote called Goldfish. 

She calls it “an absolute songwriter dream come true.” 

“Definitely was not on my bingo card for this year, but I’m freaking out. It means so much that he believed in the song. He told me that he thinks it’s the happiest break-up song he’s ever heard.” 

“That makes me smile so big because it did come from a time of pain, but it came from making light of it, and that to me was such a gift.”

Peace River-born, Nanaimo-raised singer Cameron Whitcomb won four CCMA Awards, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for The Hard Way.
