Grande Prairie lawyers appointed to Alberta Court of Justice

A pair of lawyers based out of Grande Prairie have both been appointed to the Alberta Court of Justice.

A release from the province says Christian Banks will be named a justice in the Northern Region effective Oct. 26, while Timothy Burnham will be appointed effective Dec. 1.

Banks has more than 28 years of experience as a criminal trial lawyer, is currently a managing lawyer with the Banks Gubbins Tomlinson Law Offices in Grande Prairie, and has served on the Legal Aid Appeals Committee since 2020.

Burnham is a partner with Burnham Law Group and has practiced in multiple areas, including family law, mediation, corporate law, and estate planning, and served as a mediator with Alberta Justice Resolution Services.

Lawyers with at least 10 years at the bar can apply to become a justice with the Alberta Court of Justice.

Both lawyers needed to undergo thorough, independent reviews by the Judicial Council and the Alberta Judicial Nominating Committee before being recommended for appointment.
