Arrest made in 2023 Child Lake First Nations homicide

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has made an arrest in a 2023 homicide in Child Lake First Nations.

On July 17, 2023, High Level RCMP responded to a male found deceased in his residence, determining the deceased, 48-year-old Trevor Fournier, had died from a gunshot wound.

The Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation with assistance from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton, the High Level detachment, and the Peace River Forensic Identification Section and arrested a suspect on Sept. 26, 2026.

As a result, 21-year-old Jardin Cardinal, a resident of Child Lake First Nations, has been charged with first-degree murder.
