Three taken into custody after fleeing from two police services

Alberta RCMP traffic services arrested three suspects in Whitecourt who fled Edmonton Police hours earlier.

On Sept. 8th, traffic services officers were patrolling Highway 43 near Greencourt and located a blue Ford Explorer matching a dangerous driving complaint.

RCMP attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled “at a high rate of speed,” with police not pursuing due to “public safety reasons,” as the SUV was operating “in a dangerous manner, including passing other vehicles on the highway shoulder” as it fled.

The Ford Explorer was later found abandoned in Whitecourt, and with help from Alberta RCMP Traffic Services, Whitecourt RCMP, Police Dog Services (PDS) and an RCMP drone operator, all three suspects were taken into custody.

One of the suspects was released, while the other two face a combined three charges:

  • A twenty-five-year-old Peace River resident was charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • A twenty-two-year-old resident of St. Albert was charged with two counts of breach of probation order.

    Both were remanded into custody and have a court date set for a later date.
