AccessGP after-hours AI pilot program underway

Oct 13, 2026 | 2:40 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is piloting a new after-hours service AI program.

The City says that until the end of the year, AccessGP callers outside regular business hours (4:30 p.m. – 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday) will be connected to an AI chatbot that can “answer common questions about services, direct residents to appropriate resources and take inquiries requiring staff follow-up.”

The City has named the chatbot “Riley.”

Mayor Jackie Clayton says with this new pilot program, it allows the City to “provide more support outside our regular business hours.”

“People need access to City information at different times, we’re adding another way for residents to connect with the City while keeping the people and services they already rely on in place. Over the next few months, we’ll be listening to residents and looking closely at what works and what doesn’t.”

The City noted that this pilot program will provide support during a previously unstaffed time, and regular daytime services and staffing will remain the same.

911 or emergency calls will also not be handled by the AI program.

More information on this AI pilot program can be found by contacting the City through its website.
