Final crop report has Peace Region at 89 per cent harvest completion

Harvest is virtually complete around Alberta for the 2026 season.

Provincial harvest progress bumped up four per cent compared to the week prior and now sits at 97 per cent complete.

The final Alberta Crop Report by AFSC says that, with harvest being extended longer than normal, there’s not enough comparable data from five-and 10-year averages for this week’s timeframe for many regions.

The Peace Region is the furthest behind for harvest progress at 89 per cent, despite an eight per cent gain in getting the crop off the field since the last report.

In the Peace Region, dry peas are complete, and spring wheat and barley are 96 per cent complete. Oats are 91 per cent combined in the Peace Region. Canola is 80 per cent complete, with 15 per cent of canola swathed.

Cool weather, overnight frost, and a mix of rain and snow have delayed producers in the north from getting the remaining crop in bins or bags.

Producers in the Peace have been reported to have combined above recommended moisture levels and used grain dryers before snow decides to stick around. AFSC says in its report that this will increase concerns of tough grain and canola dockage from moisture, green material, and weeds. The Peace also has reported concerns of wildlife damage to standing crops this fall.

Fall fieldwork is being done across the province to address weed pressures and unwanted growth from the wet harvest season as well.

The rain and snow have kept soil moisture reserves stable. In the Peace, sub-surface soil moisture remains at 99 per cent good-to-excellent, and surface soil moisture bumped up one point to 94 per cent good-to-excellent.
