Nov 4, 2026 | 1:31 PM

Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton has revealed that Grande Prairie has been selected as the host for the 2028 55 Plus Alberta Winter Games.

The event will happen in March of that year.

Mayor Clayton says the event will be a great time to showcase what the Swan City has to offer through local businesses and bring new opportunities to the local area.

The full statement can be read below:

“I’m happy to announce Grande Prairie as the host city for the 55 Plus Alberta Provincial Winter Games in March 2028.

We’re excited to welcome athletes aged 55 and older from across Alberta to share their passion for sport and celebrate the connections that recreation creates.

The Games are also an excellent opportunity to showcase Grande Prairie, support our local businesses and bring new opportunity to our region.

This event aligns with our Aging Well Together initiative, which created a clear path to enhance our community’s age friendliness, including highlighting the importance of creating welcoming places where people of all ages can thrive.

We look forward to coming together with community partners, volunteers and residents to make the 55 Plus Alberta Provincial Winter Games a successful experience for everyone involved.

We’re excited for what’s to come as we look ahead to the 2028 Games!” -Mayor Jackie Clayton
