Canfor reports third quarter loss

Nov 5, 2026 | 12:00 PM

Canfor is reporting a loss for the third quarter of 2026.

The company that owns a sawmill in Grande Prairie says it lost $77 million, with a net shareholder loss of $88 million, in quarter three.

The company says the lumber sector lost $19.9 million after a $41,2 million profit in the second quarter.

Part of this was because of the closure of the sawmill in Fox Creek that was finalized in September.

Canfor says lumber markets in North America were about the same as in the second quarter, due to economic uncertainty and higher mortgage rates.

Softwood lumber demand was weaker in Asia, while there was some improvement for European lumber markets.

Softer lumber markets are expected in the last three months of 2026.
