Co-op providing $1 million to “support STARS western Canadian operations”

Nov 6, 2026 | 1:26 PM

Co-operative Retailing System, FCL has committed $1 million to support STARS critical care operations in Western Canada.

Vice President, Co-op & external relations, FCL Leanne Hawks says this commitment deeply matters to Co-op, as their stores serve “more than 650 communities; a STARS patient could be one of our Co-op members, a customer, a colleague, a neighbour, a friend or a loved one.”

It will now be used to “support STARS western Canadian operations to help ensure that people have access to lifesaving care, no matter where they live, work, or play.”

STARS President and CEO Dr. John Froh says, “We are only able to serve our patients thanks to the unwavering support of partners like Co-op,” as 50 per cent of STARS funding in western Canada comes from charitable donations, community fundraising and partnerships.

“From the Rocky Mountains, across the Prairies, to the North, and beyond, we believe that every person should have access to quality, lifesaving care, no matter where they are.”

“This incredible $1 million donation from Co-op will help ensure we can continue delivering the highest standard of care, wherever it’s needed, when it matters most.”

Last year, STARS six bases, including one in Grande Prairie, flew 3,575 missions made possible by charitable donations like Co-Op.
