VIDEO: Seven bears caught on video near Bonanza

Oct 1, 2018 | 1:25 PM

A man is sharing footage of seven bears spotted in a backyard northeast of the community of Bonanza.

After finding a collection of empty cans scattered all over and a patio chair ripped apart, a family member of David Meier asked him to check the recordings from the surveillance camera he had set up on the back deck.

He says they were quite surprised to have caught the bears, all about the same size, sniffing around the yard together.

“We pulled up the video camera and happened to see one bear, then two bears, then three bears and it kept on going and going,” says Meier.

“We had to rewind it a couple of times to get a full count.”

He says the most bears he has noticed together in the area has been two cubs and a mother.

The spokesperson for Alberta Fish and Wildlife for the Grande Prairie area, Brendan Cox says the size of group is not usual, but not unheard of.

The animals were caught on camera early morning on September 26, 2018.
