Event aimed at informing public on property taxes taking place Thursday

Mar 13, 2019 | 11:54 AM

An event is being held Thursday aimed at informing the public on property taxes.

Realtor and event organizer Mark Street says former councilor Rory Tarant will be there to talk in depth about everything relating to property tax.

“He’s there to say ‘hey, this is what it is.’ Is it high? He’s going to go into that, how does it compare to other municipalities, the county and other cities? Maybe it (property tax) is high, and if it is high, why is that and what can be done to change it, or can anything be done to change it,” says Street.

Street explains property taxes aren’t only a hot topic online, as he notes plenty of potential home-owners ask about property tax when they’re looking for homes in any dollar range. He says not many people have a full understanding of property tax, and that Tarant will be prepared with slides, graphics, and other information aimed at informing the public on property taxes.

He explains he expects property taxes to be a hot topic and it will likely be the focus of another Realty Glimpse event.

The hour-long event begins at 12 p.m. on March 14 at the Holiday Inn and Conference Centre.
