Region’s jobless rate up for second straight month
Our region’s unemployment rate has climbed for a second straight month.
In May it was 6.5 per cent, up from 5.9 in April.
Statistics Canada reports Canada’s economy lost 7,500 jobs in May as a drop in full-time employment was only partially offset by an increase in part-time jobs.
The national unemployment rate held steady at 5.8 per cent for the fourth consecutive month.
