City asking for public input on two new welcome signs

Mar 13, 2019 | 5:30 AM

A couple of new welcome signs are being planned for the Swan City.

The new signs were brought up during Tuesday’s Community Living Committee meeting.

Mayor Bill Given explains the city is going to be working on ways to engage the public about how the signs should look.

“Ultimately, entrance features don’t make a community, but they should, in my mind, attempt to be at least reflective of the community in some way,” says Given. “The direction that was given here today was to slow the process down a little bit, and to do some up-front engagement with the community to make sure that whatever ultimately gets crafted is reflective of the community’s view of itself.”

The signs are planned to be located at the north and west gateways to the city. Capital funding of $150,000 has been allocated for entrance features and the city says the final cost for design, supply, and installation will fit within that budget.

Given says once the engagement with the community is complete, design concepts will be brought back to committee and then a decision will be made as to which idea will be used in the project’s request for proposal.

Currently, there’s no timeline on the project.
