Testimony ends at murder trial
Witness testimony at a Grande Prairie murder trial ended with the accused on the stand.
Nicholas Richard Harris is charged with the 2014 shooting death of John William Rock outside the Canadian Brewhouse.
Under questioning from the Crown, Harris said he was hoping he and Rock could resolve a dispute over a $30,000 drug debt as the two had been friends for many years.
Harris also said half the debt was his, the rest was for someone else.
He also admitted to having a loaded handgun with him that night and that he went to the Brewhouse to help a friend he thought was in danger from Rock.
The case is now adjourned until oral submissions April 18.
Justice E.J. Simpson says he anticipates having a decision May 31, although that is not a set date at this time.
