Highway 43X roundabout set to open mid-morning Friday

The Highway 43X roundabout is set to be open to traffic on Friday.

The province says the new roundabout at Highway 43 and Range Road 63/116 Street should open before noon tomorrow. It is meant to improve safety and according to Alberta Transportation, roundabouts are proven to reduce fatalities by up to 90-per cent and injuries by up to 80-per cent. 

The province has provided tips on using the new roundabout:

  • Slow down as you approach the roundabout.
  • Yield to traffic inside the circular lane as these drivers have the right of way.
  •  Wait for an appropriate gap.
  • Take note of the exit you want.
  • Choose the correct lane before entering.
  • Maintain a safe speed of 40 to 50 km/h.
  • Don’t change lanes within the roundabout.
  • Signal your right turn as you approach the exit you want.

According to Alberta Transportation, work continues on the bypass portion of the project and should be finished sometime early in the new year.
