Grande Cache asking residents to support a move to dissolve the town

Facing expensive infrastructure needs and a dwindling population, Grande Cache is asking residents to support a move to dissolve the town and become a hamlet in the Municipal District of Greenview.
Mayor Herb Castle says the community — which relies a lot on the oil, gas, coal and forestry industries — is not financially viable.
The town’s population has shrunk from 4,319 in 2012 to 3,571 last year — a trend that has reduced housing prices and lowered the tax base.
Residents will get a chance to vote on the proposal next Monday and Tuesday.
