Food Bank Drive Tuesday was a double record-breaker

Sep 19, 2018 | 11:22 AM

The city-wide food drive Tuesday night collected a record amount of donations and had a record number of volunteers.

Jerry Napier co-ordinator of the Rotary Food Drive says they gathered 50 tonnes of food.

“That far exceeded our previous high that we brought in a couple years ago of 46 tonnes.  We were really extremely happy with 800 plus volunteers working last night on 146 routes in Grande Prairie and surrounding area.”

Napier says the increase in volunteers contributed to the success of the drive,  as they were able to spread the routes out more.  All donations will go to the local food bank.

“And I would just like to thank the community as a whole, those that donated and those that came out and volunteered,” added Napier.
