Reporting Sexual Assault and Navigating the Justice System info sessions in demand

Jun 4, 2018 | 5:44 AM

There continues to be a strong demand for the Reporting Sexual Assault and Navigating the Justice System information session in Grande Prairie.

Chief Crown Prosecutor Steven Hinkley runs the sessions and says the June first event was full as is an extra one that was added for the 14th.

“I gotta say that I am humbled and honoured by the amount of demand and my hope is that people who have taken the course already have been speaking to their colleagues on the ground and emphasizing the value of it and my hope is that is what is generating the demand.”

He says he is already looking to book into September, adding, as far as he knows, this a first of its kind and no other provincial jurisdiction is offering the service to organizations.

“The word is definitely getting out. I’ve gotten some inquiries on social media on what’s going on and how it is going. Candidly, I have enough to do in Grande Prairie that I don’t spend a huge amount of time tracking what is going on in the rest of the province, but to my knowledge at least at this point, Grande Prairie is the only location offering it.”

His first session was in February and centres around educating frontline staff when it comes to helping sexual assault victims.
