Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum seeking more operational funding

It took almost 12 years to get the money and support together to make the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum happen.

Funding support came from all over the region, according to Linda Side, River of Death and Discovery Dinosaur Museum Society Chair. Their biggest hurdle now is locking down operational dollars, a chunk of approximately $500,000.

Side says their Operational Budget is around $1.8-million and they have locked down most it. The society and Executive Director, Susan Hunter, are now approaching municipalities who showed support in the beginning for capital investment but aren’t providing money to run the facility.

“Art galleries, museums, sciences, and all of the things that are integral for tying the social fabric together are not funded by tickets at the door. They are funded by the people that understand the value in those communities. We really believe that should be happening here too,” said Side.

Hunter made a presentation to the city in May asking for their support.

“We are so appreciative that (the city) came on board. We wouldn’t have been able to complete the project without them. It is with gratitude, that we give them an update on their capital investment and we want them to know how great things are for the museum in the Peace Region,” said Hunter.

She says they will be nudging others that regularly use the facility, like Wembley, for their continued support.
