A 33-month jail sentence has been handed down in Grande Prairie court after a frightening July 22 incident that included a police pursuit and a pickup driving into the Street Performers Festival.

Darren Sydorko pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault on peace officers, mischief over $5000 and flight from police. He will be given 164 days credit for time already spent in jail.

In an Agreed Statement of Facts given in court, the accused admitted to being drunk and at the wheel of a pick-up.

That truck hit a parked vehicle, before going around barricades into the Festival nearly hitting a child. It then ran at two Peace Officers on bike patrol, nearly hitting both.

That same truck then went through a gate at the site of the new hospital. A construction worker was nearly hit.

A pursuit then ensued where that truck was driven across private property, charged two police vehicles, one of which it hit.

The accused also shoved, knocked over and grabbed the Mounties trying to arrest him.

Sydorko has also been ordered to pay more than $28,000 restitution to six parties.
