Canucks edge Athletics in OT

A pair of games Thursday night in the North Peace Hockey League which was highlighted by a heavyweight showdown in the West division.

The Grande Prairie Athletics hosted the 1st place Dawson Creek Canucks looking to try and gain some ground in the standings.

Grande Prairie held a 3-2 lead going into the final frame, but it would be the Canucks evening the game early in the 3rd which forced OT.

In the extra frame, the Canucks would earn a power play and they took full advantage of the extra skater as Matt Schmermund found the back of the net to give Dawson Creek the road win.

The win improves Dawson Creek to 11-2-0 on the year.

Elsewhere, Falher also earned their 11th win of the season Thursday night with a 4-3 win over Manning.

The Pirates are back at it Friday evening in Grimshaw against the Huskies.
