Grande Prairie Cadet in Ottawa for Remembrance Day

A Grande Prairie teen named Canada’s Most Outstanding Army Cadet will be part of the Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa.

Seventeen-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Clarrissa Stoffelsen was selected as the 2017 Walsh Memorial Award winner in August and received the Commemorative Sword.

As part of the award, the teen will part of the Vice-Regal party. She will also attend the Luncheon for the Silver Cross Mother at Rideau Hall where she will meet the Governor General and the Chief of the Defence Staff.

“As a newly appointed Chief Warrant Officer, Cadet Stoffelsen was selected as Parade Commander for her distinct military appearance, her bearing and the way she carried herself. She was immediately tasked with organizing over 260 Cadets and prepare them for the arrival of the Reviewing Officer,” said Ken Usher, Vice-President of Alberta with the Army Cadet League of Canada, following the Vimy Ridge Parade in Edmonton in April.

“Following the parade, the Reviewing Officer commented to me that the Parade Commander was one of the finest Cadets he has ever seen in his 37 years while serving in The Canadian Forces.”

There are over 18,000 Army cadets in more than 400 cadet corps across the country.
