City seeking additional committee members

Nov 9, 2017 | 2:17 PM

The City of Grande Prairie has 36 openings for positions on committees. Opportunities exist on ten of them including the Combative Sports Commission, Grande Prairie Airport Commission, and the Assessment Review Board. The Revolution Place Advisory Board and the Economic Development Advisory Committee have the most openings with 9 and 8, respectively.

“Given the range and focuses of the committees, there really is something for everyone. I think the key factor is the people that really want to get involved in Grande Prairie. We saw, through the recent election, that people were actively engaged in shaping the future of our city. A city committee is a way to keep up that involvement in between election times,” explained Mayor Bill Given.

Applications are due by November 30 and the time commitment and skills needed will vary with each position.

“Applicants will be expected to provide some background information and some insight on the skills, perspective, and knowledge that they would bring to the roll. That information is collected by our city staff and put into a table for City Council to consider when we go through the various applications and decide who would be best on what committees.”

According to Given, people being apart of Boards, Committees and Neighbourhood Associations is vital to making the Swan City “a great place to live”.

The application forms and information on each position is available on the City’s website.
