Salvation Army breaks record this year for amount of money raised

Dec 31, 2018 | 2:14 PM

The Salvation Army of Grande Prairie has announced it’s surpassed its Christmas Campaign goal of $500,000.

The organization says in 2018 it’s reached a record-breaking $504,298.17.

The amount raised this year is the largest amount raised in 99 years since the Salvation Army started in Grande Prairie in 1919.

Captain Peter Kim says he’s thankful to the community for their contributions.

“As of December 21, we were at $403-thousand, but within the next ten days, Grande Prairie not only reached the goal, but surpassed it,” says Kim.

Kim says the money being raised is going toward services that support the community such as the food bank and the soup kitchen. He notes last year, the organization served over 27-thousand meals, distributed over 4800 regular hampers and about 560 toy hampers.

“Thank you Grande Prairie for Giving Hope Today!”
