Forecast calls for hottest May long in 10 years

May 18, 2018 | 11:04 AM

While some May long weekends we had to brace for cooler temperatures and rain or even snow, there’s nothing but sun and heat in the forecast this year.

We could see highs of 25 (tomorrow), 26 (Sunday), and 27 (Monday).  It could be the hottest May long weekend in over a decade in Grande Prairie.

Last year Grande Prairie hit 25 degrees on the Sunday of the long weekend, but that was as warm as it got.  The Saturday and Monday it was just above 20.

As people are packing up and heading out today, some might remember the Friday before the Victoria Day long weekend in 2010 when Grande Prairie received 18 centimetres of snow and hit a high of just plus 4.

It looks like this year will be much different.  There’s no precipitation in the forecast for the next 7 days.  And next week temperatures are expected to be around 30 degrees.
