A Patterson Place house fire is under investigation after a blaze caused extensive damage Thursday morning.
According to a media release from the Grande Prairie Fire Department, crews responded at around 8:35 a.m. Firefighters noticed flames and smoke coming from the basement of the home.
Although it was originally thought that someone may still be in the basement, a search by crews turned up no one. The only person home at the time made it out, but a family dog was not able to be saved and passed away.
There was extensive damage from fire and smoke and the department isn’t able to provide an estimate of the damage yet.
