Mandel rips government’s handling of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital

Sep 11, 2018 | 1:36 PM

The leader of the Alberta Party describes the government’s handling of the new Grande Prairie hospital as an example of a “ham-fisted approach to governing”.

In a written statement. Stephen Mandel goes on the say this is “another example of the NDP’s heavy-handed approach to issues management.”

He charges that the government avoided meeting with the contractor to talk about problems arising from the project, adding that province brought in more than 600 change orders after a contract was finalized without putting more money in the budget. Those changes also came without new timelines but did require a complete reworking of plans in some cases, according to the statement.

Mandel adds this government mismanagement means hundreds of tradespeople are now unemployed.
