New heat exchanger needed for Crosslink County Sportsplex

Feb 4, 2018 | 7:18 AM

The Crosslink County Sportsplex is in line for a replacement piece of equipment.

County of Grande Prairie Council has approved taking $32,151 out of a reserve fund to replace the heat exchanger on the ice plant after the old one developed a leak.

Manager of Parks and Recreation for the County Christine Rawlins says this money is set aside each year “for the replacement of equipment like this that, maybe, some are anticipated, some are not, so we always have that in reserve should something like this arise.”

Rawlins says there is still around $389,000 left in that reserve fund.

She adds this did not impact the use of the rink.

“We were able to maintain the high standard of ice surface that customers have come to expect at the Sportsplex. It was a little bit more work on the back end for the operators that work at the Sportsplex and also our Public Works and Parks staff, but it was something that was fairly minor, and we were able to manage it all quite easily without an impact to the customer.”

The new equipment should be here within the next couple weeks.
