GPMHA announce new development facility

Nov 12, 2018 | 6:00 AM

This past week the Grande Prairie Minor Hockey Association announced they will be building a brand-new development centre in the Coca-Cola Centre.

President of GPMHA D.J Golden explains how they came to the decision to build the facility.

“The space in the lobby which was previously used as a sports store had become available and we had talked on the board for the past couple years about trying to find a space to do some of the coach and player development stuff in. Along with the on-ice stuff, there is a lot of off ice stuff which our teams do.”

When it comes to the cost, Golden says the Minor Hockey Association’s budget is $50,000.

“That is kind of the number we are going with. If we end up going over that we do have some money sitting in contingent funds in Minor Hockey which we can dip into if we don’t have enough money to finish things like tables, chairs, and video equipment. Stuff like that, but I think we should stay below the $50,000 mark.”

The development centre is expected to be open in early 2019.
