Region’s unemployment rate down slightly

The local unemployment rate has gone down slightly.
The August reading is 5.9 per cent in our region that stretches from Jasper to Peace River, that is down from July’s 6.0 per cent and back to what it was in April.
Statistics Canada reports that nationally the economy lost 51,600 jobs in August.
The unemployment rate was 6.0 per cent compared with 5.8 per cent in July.
Alberta’s jobless rate remained the same at 6.7 per cent.
