Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement says the area around the Wapiti Nordic Ski Club is closed due to bear activity and traps have been set.
Around noon Monday, a hiker encountered what is being described as an aggressive grizzly bear on the ski trails. Bear spray was used on the animal, but it was undeterred and followed the hiker for about 700 metres as they left the area.
According to a Facebook post, the closure is south of Township Road 704, east of Range Road 63, west of Highway 40, and north of the Wapiti River.
Signs, as well as closure tape, have been put up in the area.
