New Collision Reporting Centre opens in GP

Aug 28, 2018 | 11:09 AM

A first of its kind in Canada, Grande Prairie’s new Collision Reporting Centre opened Monday.

The centre is for individuals involved in non-injury collisions, who can still drive their vehicle or get it towed to its location at the Eastlink Centre.

The goal is to free up RCMP officers to respond to other crimes.

“The new Collision Reporting Centre will provide timely collision analysis that will be used to focus police resources,” said Don McKenna, Grande Prairie RCMP Superintendent. “The Centre will also create new efficiencies that reduce the administrative burden on the RCMP officers and support staff.”

The Collision Reporting Centre is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

“We believe our community is better served when our efforts successfully place the right resources in the right place,” said Bill Given, City of Grande Prairie Mayor. “City Council has been and remains committed to improving services for our residents by implementing innovative ideas, such as the Collision Reporting Centre.”
