Sutherland honoured by friends and fans

The King of Chuckwagon Racing was saluted last night before of a room full of loyal fans and followers. 

And it was announced that a roadway in Evergreen Park will be named Kelly Sutherland Way. 

Speakers including Willie de Wit, Mayor Bill Given and President of the Grande Prairie Chuckwagon Heritage Foundation Justin Tidd gave congratulations and shared stories and highlights of Sutherland’s career. 

Sutherland is retiring after 50 years of Chuckwagon Racing and 12 world championships. 

He is the only Chuckwagon racer to have competed in all 40 Grande Prairie Stompedes. 

He says now he plans to spend more time with his young grandchildren, visit the mountains and go fishing with his buddies.
