Arrest made after shotgun fired in motel parking lot

May 12, 2018 | 6:37 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP say a 28-year-old man is facing several charges after a shotgun was fired Saturday morning at the Silver Crest Lodge.

The man’s name has not been released by RCMP.

Police say they got a call at 7:30 a.m. about a man with a firearm in the Lodge’s parking lot. Police say they heard the shot when they arrived. When they tried to arrest the suspect, he became what RCMP describe as “combative”, but was eventually taken in. Witnesses later said this man had fired the shotgun into a vehicle he had stolen.

This same suspect had been involved in an earlier incident with occupants of a vehicle that had its driver’s side window smashed. Police are looking for a Dodge Nitro that may have damage to the driver’s side and rear windows in relation to this incident.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call Grande Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
